WHAT DOES AN ARCHITECT DO?

Whether you're dreaming of a custom home, planning a remodel, or designing a small business space, an architect helps turn your vision into a well-planned, buildable reality.

An architect is your creative partner, problem-solver, and guide through the design and construction process. From the first ideas to the final inspection, we help ensure your project looks great, functions well, meets local codes, and stays on track with your goals and budget.

The Architectural Process

Every project is unique—but most follow a similar path from idea to finished building. Here's what to expect when you work with an architect:

1. Pre-Design (Getting Started)
This is where we get to know you, your needs, and your site. We’ll discuss:
  • How you want to use the space
  • Your budget and timeline
  • Site conditions, zoning rules, and any existing structures
  • Your design style and lifestyle or business goals
This phase lays the groundwork for a successful project.

2. Schematic Design (Big Picture Ideas)
Next, we start exploring design options. You'll see early sketches, floor plans, and maybe 3D views that show:
  • How the layout could work
  • Where rooms or features are located
  • The overall look and feel of the project
This phase is all about developing the right concept and making sure it aligns with your vision.

3. Design Development (Bringing It into Focus)
Once a direction is chosen, we start refining the design:
  • Room sizes, window placements, materials, and details
  • Coordination with structural and other consultants (as needed)
  • More accurate cost estimates
You’ll see the design evolve into something much closer to what will be built.

4. Construction Documents (The Blueprint Phase)
This is where we turn the design into detailed drawings and technical specs for permitting and construction. These include:
  • Floor plans, elevations, and sections
  • Material and product selections
  • Notes for contractors and consultants
These documents are the instructions your builder will follow to bring your project to life.

5. Permitting & Contractor Selection

We help you submit the plans to your local building department for permits and, if needed, assist in choosing a contractor by:
  • Sharing your project with qualified builders
  • Answering their questions
  • Reviewing bids with you
Already have a contractor? Great—we’ll coordinate directly with them.

6. Construction Oversight (Making Sure It’s Built Right)

As construction begins, we stay involved to make sure your project is built according to the plans. This might include:
  • Site visits and walkthroughs
  • Answering contractor questions
  • Reviewing materials or changes
  • Helping resolve any unexpected issues
We're here to protect your interests and help deliver the quality you expect.
